Reading Log April 17, 2013

Time Read: 4:15-4:35
Pages: 736-749
POV: Jon

After climbing an icy cliff, Jon and Stonesnake fight a pack of wildlings. They captured the wildling woman named Ygritte who yielded to them. The three talked about Bael the Bard a bastard who became the King-Beyond-the-Wall and invaded the south but was slain by a Stark. When they returned to camp Jon refuses to execute her and tells her to run off. In my opinion this chapter was arguably one of the best in the book. I really enjoyed the story about Bael and I think there is a strong and complicated connection between Jon and Ygrette. Also at the beginning the author did a fantastic job by describing Jon's struggle while he climbed his first cliff. Today I had to read early because of other work and I felt very confident with my comprehension.

Reading Log April 14, 2013

Time Read: 3:25-3:45
Pages: 720-735
POV: Theon

Theon wakes up at night and hears that Bran, Rickon, their wolves, the Reeds, Osha and Hodor are gone. He orders a search for them but the party loses the tracks in the Wolfswood so Theon begins to return to Winterfell. On their way back they discover a bag that suggests they are in the Old Mill and Theon goes there saying he will show no mercy. Ever since Theon's trip to the Iron Islands he has been an arrogant and angry person who  constantly makes impulsive decisions because he does not want to look weak. Theon has already claimed Winterfell for his family but in his rage he does not have the slightest amount of humanity to let the boys escape. I believe that Theon's poor decisions as a leader will ultimately be his downfall and karma will eventually catch up to him. Today I read without any interruptions but I had to post this late due to a family engagement.

Reading Log April 11, 2013

Time Read: 11:45-12:00
Pages:  675-694
POV: Tyrion

Tyrion is preparing for the Batte against Stannis Baratheon and visits the Alchemist's Guild to retrieve his 13,000 jars of wildfire. Tyrion is then told by Varys that merchants called the "Antler Men" (Baratheon Loyalists) plan to arm civilians during the raid so Tyrion puts out an arrest wearrant for them. I find it really cool to see how Tyrion is creating his plan to defend Kings Landing with a smaller army, I am very curious to see how the wildfire will be used and how it works against a massive fleet of ships and soldiers. Also the news about the Antler Men is another factor Tyrion has to deal with when planning his strategy. I am very excited to see how the rest of the book plays out because this battle is very significant and is going to pave the way for the rest of the series. Today I read during my C.E. block and though it was noisey I managed to read well and work efficiently.
